On the 8th day of Christmas… Call on Me

Call on Me new coverYou will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

Today I give you the title track, Call on Me.  I thought about holding it back for last, but it follows yesterday’s post so well I thought it would be a shame not to bring it on today.

i-know-the-plans-i-have-jeremiah-29_11Interestingly enough, the song actually arose because of a poster hanging in the men’s office restroom at the last church I served.  Every time I went in for my necessary business the words stared right back at me.  Before I knew it, a melody began running through my head.  It was a beautiful illustration in watercolor and calligraphy by artist Holly V. Monroe.  I was so taken by its beauty, along with the melody I couldn’t evacuate from my thoughts that I called her one day to ask about using it for an album cover.  She was very kind and accommodating, quoting me a very reasonable price for permission to use and even for her to make modifications to prep it for the cover.  Inevitably I decided against it because it was just a bit too busy, opting for the simple image you see above.  But I so appreciate her graciousness!

As beautiful as this graphic art piece is to me, God sees something just as breathtaking.  The piece of art He is enjoying with every fiber of His being is… you and me, fully living life.

For we are His masterpiece [poemia], created in Christ Jesus for good works which God provided for long before, that we should perform them.     Ephesians 2:10

As I mentioned yesterday, it is important to keep our eye on the ball.  My younger son is an art student.  We noticed a dramatic change in the quality of his drawing these past few months.  I came home from work one day to see a charcoal drawing of him on the kitchen table.  I snapped a picture of it on my phone and sent it to my older son, who was likewise impressed.  What had made such a difference in his work?  Steve was taking a class called “Observational Drawing” and had learned to look… really LOOK at the object of his art as he drew.

God knows we can’t live the abundant life He created us for until we close in and focus our attention on Him and the beautiful world He created.  When we’ve wandered, He gives us the prescription to get refocused:

  1. Call on Him
  2. Come to Him
  3. Pray to Him
  4. Seek Him with all of your heart
  5. Call to Him
  6. Listen to Him
  7. Open your eyes to all you never could have seen on your own.
