In the Wake of the Sexual Revolution…

An Etchings App Photo

And so, we come to the fifth and final segment of this series.  I will summarize what has been written, make a few observations of current happenings, and possibly make a few cautious predictions.

Yes.  I am not above inventing words.  Xenogamy: Marriage between Odd Combinations.  Gay “marriage” is probably not the last fencepost to be torn down so the masses can stampede across property.  As you know, since my last post, the US Supreme Court ruled that The Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional, opening the door for same-sex couples married in states that provisionally allow it to receive spousal benefits.  It did NOT legalize same-sex marriage.  That being said, it is only a matter of time until the nation slides into the abyss of marital “un-definition” and ultimately the destruction of the family as God designed it.  Not only will gays be able to call their unions “marriage,” many other sexual orientations will begin to clamor for equal treatment: polygamists, pedophiles…  We are already beginning to see this.  Since we’ve opened ourselves up to monkeying around with the time-honored and societally mandated state of matrimony in regard to gender, is it only a matter of time until we’re willing to monkey with number of partners and age of participants?  Perhaps even species (bestiality) and life status (necrophilia)?  Of course, I am using the argument of Reductio ad absurdum to make a point.

According to CNN:

36 — The number of U.S. states that have banned same-sex marriage, either through legislation or constitutional provisions.

6 — The number of U.S. states that allow civil unions between same-sex couples, but not marriage: Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey and Rhode Island. This number will go down to four this summer after Delaware’s new marriage laws take effect in July and the Rhode Island laws do on August 1. (Some states that allow civil unions also ban same-sex marriage.)

12 — The number of U.S. states that allow same-sex marriage, along with the District of Columbia: Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

The DOMA no doubt should have been unnecessary.  ‘Family’ makes little sense, after all, outside a procreating man and wife plus their offspring.  Other arrangements are just ‘roommates with benefits’.

Oddly enough ‘roommates with benefits’ has become the preference of a large number of heterosexual couples.  (Strange how gays want to tie the knot, and it’s like pulling teeth for straight couples to do so, isn’t it?)  The philosophy of ‘serial monogamy‘ has also become prevalent – the norm of one marriage, subsequent divorce, subsequent remarriage, on and on for life.  Fidelity is becoming the new dirty word.  Jesus speaks about God’s desire for marital faithfulness in Matthew 19:

Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife(D) for any and every reason?”

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

And lest we think Jesus was drastically departing from the Old Testament intention, consider the words of 5th century Hebrew prophet Malachi, chapter 2:

13 Here is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings and doesn’t accept them with pleasure. 14 You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.

15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his.  And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. 16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”

The cohabiting population includes all age groups, but the average cohabiting age group is between 25-34.  But sex prior to (or outside of) marriage has gained ground in adolescent population.

The United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the fully industrialized world. While the rates have been declining in the last 15 years, it remains a source of concern that

Our public schools’ sex education programs seem to be slanted toward the tenet that our teenagers cannot and ought not control their sexual urges.  The “morning-after” pill has just been made available legally to females under the age of 17 without a prescription.

It all boils down to this: why bother with precaution if a cure is quick and easy?  Many people think a pill started the Sexual Revolution.  But it wasn’t really the birth control pill, as many believe; it was penicillin.   The commandments of God are considered irrelevant if the consequences of sin can be evaded.  Without the fear of pregnancy or the fear of disease and death, sex then becomes man’s plaything, void of responsibility.

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.  She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened,… Genesis 3

But regardless of the advancements of medical science and the ever-changing values of our society, one truth is unchanged:

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

The only solution for the former is the acceptance of the latter.  America, choose life.  Come back.
